We provide Level 4 finish as standard for living spaces, with Level 5 available for high-end applications.

The 5 Levels of Drywall Finish

• Level 0 – No taping - temporary construction or areas to be demolished
• Level 1 (Fire Taping) – Single coat over tape at joints - used above ceilings and in concealed areas for fire code
• Level 2 – Tape plus one coat covering fasteners - garages, storage, utility areas
• Level 3 – Tape plus two coats - areas receiving heavy texture finishes
• Level 4 (Standard) – Tape plus three coats with sanding - standard for 95% of residential living spaces
• Level 5 (Premium) – Full skim coat over Level 4 - required for gloss paint and specialty finishes

Why Level 4 is Our Standard

Level 4 finish involves tape embedded in three coats of joint compound with careful sanding between each coat. This produces a smooth, uniform surface suitable for flat and eggshell paint finishes - what most homeowners want. We don't cut corners with Level 3 in living spaces because imperfections show through paint, especially in natural light. After framing and insulation are complete, quality taping is what makes walls look professional. For soundproofing applications, we work with resilient channels and multiple drywall layers.

When You Need Level 5

Level 5 adds a thin skim coat of compound over the entire wall surface, not just the joints. This eliminates the slight texture difference between taped joints and bare drywall paper that can show under gloss or semi-gloss paint. If your designer specifies high-gloss finishes or you're building an ultra-high-end home, Level 5 is worth the additional cost.

• Flat Joint Taping – Paper tape embedded in compound at all butt joints and flat joints between boards
